Black is the color of my true love's hair His face is something wondrous fair The brightest eyes and the strongest hands I love the ground whereon he stands I love my lover and well he knows I love the grass whereon he goes And if on earth, no more he shall be My life will surely fade from me I'll go to the Clyde and I'll mourn and I'll weep For satisfied I'll never be I'll write him a letter, just a few short lines And suffer death a thousand times The winter's passed, and the leaves are green The time is past that we have seen But still I hope that the day will come When he and I will be as one (Scottish traditional/Appalachian traditional/John Jacob Niles)

about

Trying to put more stuff out there that I'm not concerned about being totally perfect. Recorded all today (2022/02/04) on my phone. "Of species in gradus..." is an original composition from 2019 around the end of my undergrad, in a loosely neo-Renaissance style after John Dowland. "Black is the Color..." is a Scottish/Appalachian traditional song, with a melody famously rearranged by John Jacob Niles.

Album art excerpted from a photo taken by my brother Kai.
